Title: Community Outreach and Data Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Community Engagement

Term: Immediately 

Status: Full-time, Exempt Employee, 40 hours/week 

Salary: $60,000-$70,000

 

This is a unionized organization, and this position is in the collective bargaining unit.

 

Position Summary: The Community Outreach and Data Coordinator will be primarily responsible for assisting the Community Engagement and Communications teams develop and implement AAJC’s communications and capacity-building project. This Coordinator will also be responsible for researching, identifying, and supporting community organizations in need of additional capacity, resources, and/or training; help to conduct, analyze, and report on a far-reaching needs assessment of AAJC’s partner organizations; assist in narrative-building activities; and track deliverables with the Community Engagement and Communications teams. 

In addition, the Community Outreach and Data Coordinator will help build infrastructure to maintain AAJC’s Community Partners (CP) network database to support AAJC’s community education, field outreach, and advocacy initiatives.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Act as thought partner to the Director of Community Engagement on community mobilizing, education, and relationship building to support and implement AAJC’s programmatic agenda for the advocacy capacity building initiative, especially for the Community Partners’ Network (CPN) and volunteer advocate network.
  • Work closely with policy leads and AAJC staff to ensure alignment on budgets, program goals, and strategies for advocacy capacity building. 

Project and Community Partner Network Management

  • Build relationships with Community Partners (CPs) through check-ins, follow up, and in-person events to identify programming, resources, and technical assistance needed.
  • Serve as project manager for overall coordination of capacity-building initiative across teams, including assisting in managing subgrants, developing trainings, and providing advocacy resources to subgrantees and other CPs.
  • Research and record key information on CPs in AAJC’s network database to inform and improve future community-engagement activities and communications.
  • Coordinate community-engagement strategies with AAJC policy teams, which may include immigration, technology and telecommunications, anti-hate, and others.
  • Assist in the identification of CPs for communications opportunities, including storytelling and media interviews.
  • Coordinate communications to CPs, including partner work to highlight in AAJC communications.
  • Support strategies to strengthen and grow the CPN.
  • Maintain AAJC’s Community Partner Network database to inform and improve future community engagement activities and communications. 

Field Outreach Coordination

  • Help conduct outreach to CPs, partner organizations, coalitions, and other stakeholders to mobilize them to take action on timely federal policy issues.
  • Maintain AAJC’s Action Center to provide timely, easy-to-use, and easy-to-access information and tools to take action.
  • Work closely with Community Engagement, Communications, and Development teams to develop and execute a digital organizing strategy with advocates and volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General AAJC Roles

  • Contribute to, establish, and follow policies and procedures, including maintenance of confidentiality, to ensure that the principles of AAJC are implemented.
  • Participate in and lead decision-making processes, understand outcomes, and be accountable for decisions made in or affecting their area.
  • Understand the values and principles of AAJC and apply them fully in work responsibilities.
  • Participate in other activities and serve on ad hoc committees as requested.
  • Attend and contribute to AAJC and Board of Directors’ meetings as requested.
  • Be available to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least two years of work experience in media and communications, community outreach, research, and/or local nonprofits. 
  • Experience in policy advocacy, campaigns, and/or field organizing.
  • Experience supporting narrative development and storytelling for community-based organizations.
  • Experience with grassroots communications and social media outreach.
  • Knowledge of Asian American, civil, and/or human rights issues at local/national levels preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Ability to operationalize vision, think strategically, creatively problem solve, exercise good judgment, and lead change. 
  • Successful track record of forging alliances and coalitions and moving people to take collective action and engage in advocacy.
  • Facilitative and collaborative leadership style, with strong people skills. 
  • Experience working with diverse groups from various sectors.
  • Proven ability to work collegially with management and team members.
  • Strong outreach, oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to translate law and policy messages in plain language to different audiences.
  •  Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and balance competing assignments.
  • Self-starter, who can take initiative and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel plus) and Sharepoint. 
  • Experience with Quorum, SalesForce, FileMaker Pro, and/or other CRM databases preferred. 
  • Experience with digital organizing a plus.
