Washington, D.C. – Today, the national network of independent social justice affiliates Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice) mourns the losses of lives in the mall shooting in Allen, Texas and denounces white supremacy and its ties to gun violence.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice releases the following statement:

"The Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation mourns the lives needlessly lost on Saturday, May 6th, when a gunman opened fire at a Texas outlet mall, killing 8 people and wounding 7 more, mainly people of color. Four of the 8 deceased were Asian American, several of the victims were young children, and the majority of the injured were of Korean or Indian descent. We send our deepest condolences to their loved ones and the Allen community now in mourning.

While investigations into the gunman’s motivations are ongoing, he has been linked to rightwing extremist and white supremacist internet circles. The Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation strongly condemns white supremacy and the systems it upholds, and demands that Congress and our elected representatives take action to protect communities from gun violence and create a safer country.

Everyone has the right to shop, work, attend school, and simply live without the constant threat of gun violence and white supremacy."
