WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, American Airlines flight 5342 collided with a military United States Army Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C.’s Ronald Reagan International Airport, tragically leaving no survivors from either craft. As families mourn and community members come together to search for answers, Trump callously used his podium time exploiting this horrific tragedy to perpetuate lies and discriminate against vulnerable communities.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC releases the following statement:
“We are devastated by the aviation tragedy that took place last night. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and friends who mourn their loss. We grieve together with the rest of a compassionate nation. In the face of such a devastating loss, it is reprehensible that the President chose to use his airtime to attempt to cast blame on diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in Federal Aviation Administration for the incident.
“We will continue to see more of his baseless attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, people of color, women, people with disabilities and other marginalized communities in an effort to justify discrimination from the highest office in the nation. A tragic aviation incident is not a time for racist, divisive lies when our nation needs true leadership for those affected by this tragedy and the brave first responders who continue working around the clock on recovery and investigation efforts.”
