Digital Equity

Advancing Justice | AAJC advocates for digital equity across Asian American communities. Our work is grounded in a comprehensive framework for meaningful digital inclusion: affordability, access, and adoption.

Closing the Digital Divide: Advancing Justice | AAJC’s research on the impact of the digital divide on Asian American communities reveals the challenges we face today: 17 percent lack access to reliable, high-speed internet at home. 53 percent of Asian Americans cite affordability as their primary barrier to internet access, while 40 percent live in areas lacking adequate infrastructure. This research informs our federal policy advocacy on issues such as broadband access, infrastructure investments, and digital literacy education.

Language Access: When federal agencies failed to provide multilingual resources for critical programs like the Affordable Connectivity Program, we led translation efforts to ensure that culturally competent, in-language information reached Asian American families. Working alongside the Asian American Tech Table, we advocate at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on issues ranging from broadband affordability and accessibility to predatory prison call rates and emergency alert systems.

Community-Informed Digital Literacy: Recognizing that our community-based partner organizations best understand the unique needs of the diverse communities they serve, Advancing Justice | AAJC funds digital literacy courses nationwide. Often taught in-language and tailored for the local community, these classes equip participants with the knowledge and skillset required to attain self-sustainability and access economic opportunity through technology.
