Washington, D.C. — July 11, 2019 — President Donald Trump is expected to hold a press conference shortly to announce his next steps in pursuit of adding the citizenship question to the 2020 Census.  Some news reports claim that he will not ask the U.S. Justice Department to pursue any further legal action to include the citizenship question on the 2020 Census form.

With its case still open in the U.S. District Court of Maryland, Advancing Justice | AAJC (Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC) issues the following statement:

“As things currently stand, this Administration is blocked from adding the citizenship question to the 2020 Census and Advancing Justice | AAJC will continue to fight for a fair and accurate count with full participation from our communities.”

“We will listen carefully this afternoon to the President’s plan. With all the months of lies and deceit from this administration and its government officials, we will not let our guard down.”

“We will be prepared with our next legal moves should the President decide to issue an executive order as was previously contemplated in the last few days.”

“The U.S. Supreme Court and three Federal Courts have all rejected the excuses the Trump Administration has used to attempt to get a citizenship question on the census. The Courts have ruled. If this is the end of the legal fight, we stand ready to ensure a fair and accurate count.”
